Six Elements of Search Engine Optimization – Trust and Influence

After a case of severe procrastination, I have finally returned with my fifth installment of my series that explains, in great detail, the most important facets in the art of Search Engine Optimization.

Some may argue that trust and influence is just a segment of social media, but with websites like klout collecting data those segments are growing legs and beginning to stand on their own. For anyone with a blog, Technorati is a website that measures influence and trust in the blogosphere. Researching as I go, I find that Technorati is actually trying to fill the gaps that exist and is now more focused on measuring “digital influence.” Anyone can post a million articles on the same subject and become an authority, but becoming an influence is a whole other ball game.

With Google’s author ranks factored into the equation, it becomes clear that social media and trust (or authority) and influence play a bigger role in search engine rankings every day.Still not so sure? Well, I can only point to a trusted authority on the subject, HubSpot and this article entitled “A Crystal Clear Explanation of How Social Media Influences SEO”

I know I have only cited several articles to explain my point, but I am not trying to re-invent the wheel here. As this part of the Internet grows and evolves, it is sure to become a game-changer for small businesses of the future. Or the entire grid could go down tomorrow and people will be laughing at me in 50 years for a) depending on electricity and b) getting so caught up in the Internet. It could really go either way folks !
